Connecting families to free food & services in Sonoma Valley
Our History
No Pay Cafe/Café Gratis was founded by Sheana Davis and Ben Sessions of The Epicurean Connection in response to the devastation caused by the fires in Sonoma Valley and the surrounding areas near her home.
Sheana and her husband, Ben, along with volunteers, cooked and served hundreds of meals daily out of a local hotel until she realized the need created by the fire disaster and exacerbated by the closing of the local shelters was more than she could handle on her own. She reached out to clients and colleagues to support her beloved hometown, and the No Pay Cafe/Café Gratis was born!

Facebook kitchens is by far the biggest contributor of meals, allowing the Cafe to provide over 100,000 meals in the first 15 days of service. Working with the factors of power outages and widespread evacuations in the community, Sheana wanted to pull resources from outside of the area so as not to tax local chefs and farmers who had already lost revenue--in a traditionally high season for business--the harvest season.
Amy's provided a semi full of cans of soup, which were distributed for months within Sonoma Valley.
Jackson Family Wines cooked up 500 servings of paella for two weeks, SF Fights Fire Chefs, comprised of several SF Bay Area restaurant and hotel chefs and caterers, prepared and delivered thousands of meals to our Boyes Hot Springs location over the 15 days we were in the Springs Community Hall, which donated its space. Community members came by with car and truckloads of bottled waters, canned goods, fresh fruits, diapers, toothbrushes and other toiletries. Over 150 volunteers came out of nowhere to help, most old friends, and ALL friends for life! Our community has come together in LOVE and dedication to help their neighbors, it is inspiring and heartwarming.
Facebook has committed to continue to provided meals through the end of the year, and we are committed to carrying on feeding a need in our local community that was only exacerbated by the firestorms of October, 2017. Food scarcity and food insecurity are very real problems in our community, and, especially with so many displaced by the fires and with winter fast approaching, we MUST take this burden off the table for local families--worrying about putting FOOD on their table.
The No Pay Cafe/Café Gratis is working closely with local non-profits to expand an existing network of meal providers, and continue to feed our community with food donated to No Pay Cafe/Café Cafe Gratis and shared with our community.
